Female families
A female family is every horse that goes back, dam to dam, to the same mare: the tap-root.
We number a family when it has at least 5 horses in Tukum: A for Akyel, C for Chongtor, in the order the tap-root mares were foaled. A tap-root is only the furthest mare we have a record for. Many Chongtor families go back further in the sanjyra than on paper, so a family founded in the 1990s is often an old family whose earlier mares were never written down. The numbers are Tukum's own. The studbooks don't number families.
Every horse page shows its family. Horses whose dam line has fewer than 5 horses here are not numbered.
