About Tukum

Tukum means seed, descent. The site began in 2009 as a card index kept by Janyl Kurmanbek kyzy (reg. Kurmanbekova), then a lecturer in the TSU veterinary faculty, for her students' practical work on breeding. Breeders asked for copies, so in 2011 it went online on MyPage@Attelkom, and it has been at tukum.net since 2016. She retired in 2022 and breeds a few Chongtors at Kara-Oi in the upper Talas valley. A handful of volunteers in Talas, the valleys and the United States read in new lists.

Where the records come from

What it is not

Tukum isn't a registry and doesn't issue papers. If our record and a certificate disagree, the certificate wins, and please tell us. Studbooks are kept by the Akyel Equine Logistics & Breeding Syndicate (Akyel) and the Chongtor Studbook Registry. For export papers, see the step-by-step guide on e-Irad. We don't list prices and we don't carry sale adverts.

Reading the numbers

Inbreeding is Wright's coefficient, worked out from every ancestor we have. Where an ancestor is "not recorded", the real figure may be higher. Leading-sire counts include only the foals we have entered.

Thanks

To the reading room of the State Archives, the Hippodrome stewards, the breeders of the Guild, and everyone who has sent us a photocopied certificate.
